Toastmasters meetings are much the same as any other business meetings.   Most of the meeting is dedicated to improving the  communication and leadership skills of our members.

Table Topics: Questions or topics are given to Toastmasters randomly.  The Toastmaster has to try to talk on that subject for around one minute.   this is aimed at improving our ability to think and speak on our feeet.

Table Topic Evaluations: another Toastmaster will provide brief positive feedback on the performance of th etable topic speaker.

Prepared Speeches: Toastmasters prepare and deliver speeches.  Most speeches are 5-7 minutes in length and we typically have between four to six speakers at a meeting.   The speeeches can be on any topic.   The speaker will be using a manual to guide them in constructing and delivering their speeches.  The first manual has 10 projects ranging from delivering an ice-breaker to trying to inspire your audience.

Speech Evaluations: Each speaker is evaluated in line with the objectives of the speech in the manual.  Feedback is generally positive with one or two points for improvement.  We use the Commend – Recomend – Commend principle.

The meetings are conducted out in a fun and enjoyable environment to keep all members entertained. There are formal aspects of the meeting as well, these formal aspects are where business is carried out for the club, so that the club can be maintained and steered into the right direction for all members.

During each Toastmaster meeting some members are given a role to perform on the night. There are many different roles that can be performed by a member, such as the ‘um’ and ‘er’ counter, which is counting how many ‘ums’ and ‘ers’ are perfromed on the night by all members.
